Bio

I am Noreta Lewis-Prince. I am passionately driven to use music and its extended areas to help develop the minds and gifts of my students. I am a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, located in Kingston, Jamaica, where I obtained and Diploma in Music and also a Certificate in School Music Teaching. I received The Dennis Emmanuel Brown Awards for the Most Outstanding Teacher and the Randall Stone Award and the Most Outstanding Student.

My first exposure to music was at the tender age of eight (8) when my grandmother who was a Piano Teacher introduced me to the piano and gave me my first piano lesson. This lesson awoke my deep seated-passion for music.

Ever since then I have dedicated my life to passing on the knowledge that I have to the younger generation. My experience with music spans beyond just playing instruments. My love for music would not allow me to just stick to one sector.

I am trained in teaching the piano, functional voice and the trap set (drums). I am classically trained and I also play by ear.

I was pushed by my love for music which led me to compete in various events and competitions. In 2000, I took part in a competition, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission which consisted of three hundred and eighty-five (385) entrants. I was placed first (1st) in that competition and also won the award for most outstanding performer. I won a total of three hundred thousand dollars (300,000) for the same.

These experiences have shaped me into the Musician that I am today and has helped me to bring a unique angle to teach children from.

I have taught Piano, Voice and Music Theory at the Edna Manley College for seven years to both adults and children. It is always a rewarding experience seeing my students excelling in their external examinations and receiving awards. I also taught Music at the Tivoli Gardens High School for eight years.

I believe that singing is an elemental form of human expression with the power to transform lives. I am also passionate about helping students discover the value and beauty of their own authentic voice.

I have a fearless approach for volunteerism; therefore, I am always giving back my service to Youth at Risk, group homes and various youth groups. With my own enthusiastic love for music, I am willing, ready and open for new opportunities.

I am self-driven and always creating an environment conducive to learning for my students, both young and old. I am very dependable and will put a smile on my student’s faces.
