ABOUT HEATHER MILLER
Heather Andrews Miller grew up in a musical family and you might say that music is her passion. She’s either playing her instruments, singing, listening to the radio or CDs, YouTube or transposing a favourite melody to suit her alto voice. While still living at home with her parents, she sang with her family, harmonizing with her sister and father in church while her mother played the piano or organ. She has sung in many church and community choirs over the years and values the experience.
A music teacher for over 25 years, Heather has her Grade 8 certificate in Royal Conservatory of Music in piano. She also plays and teaches guitar and ukulele. She enjoys classical guitar but also teaches current hits in many genres, including country, easy listening or rock and roll. She especially enjoys saluting the many great Canadian performers of which we can be proud and uses some of their material in her lessons. Heather especially enjoys helping her students learn about performing if they are interested, including stage presence and how to accompany themselves on their instrument. She designs specific lesson plans for each student and welcomes their input about which songs on which they wish to work.
Heather performs regularly at retirement homes, farmers markets and open stage events. She volunteers at community events by leading jam sessions where many people playing various instruments as well as people who just like to sing, gather and enjoy a social event and music.
Heather teaches from her home studio in west Edmonton where she lives with two pets. She especially enjoys time with her three daughters and six grandchildren, all of whom live nearby in Edmonton. Heather is always ready and happy to welcome new students!
